Optica Workshop

Communicating Research: Abstract Writing and Poster Preparation

You’ve done the research. Now comes the harder part: making someone stop at your poster and want to read more.

In this practical OPTICA workshop, you will learn how to turn your results into a clear and convincing abstract and a poster people actually remember. You will see how to structure your scientific story, how to adjust it to who is listening, and which common mistakes make good research look confusing. Along the way, you will also get a short look at scientific writing and publishing, including the ethical questions that come with it.

The workshop will end with a short abstract-writing session, where you can try out the structure presented during the workshop on your own abstract.

Come prepared

Before the workshop, think about what you’d like to write an abstract for. It could be a talk or poster you’re planning, an article you’re working on, or simply a paper you love and want to try summarising.
